Precipitation totals are expected to keep climbing Thursday, increasing the risk of flooding across North Texas.
Overnight, storms and showers are forecast before 1 a.m., switching to just showers after that point. Rainfall is expected to continue Thursday, the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office said. While exact amounts will vary by location, most of the region is expected to get 2-4 inches over this multiday washout. Some areas could get 5-7 inches.
That high accumulation of water will make flooding more likely. A flood watch was issued for much of North Texas early Wednesday and is expected to last through 7 p.m. Thursday.
The weather service advises residents to exercise extra caution when driving through low or poorly draining areas. Water on flooded roads is often deeper than it appears, which is why the weather service frequently cites the slogan “turn around, don’t drown!”
Hour-by-hour forecasts show rain chances dropping throughout the day Thursday, but are subject to change as the system has been generally slow-moving.
